We’re Hiring @ Next Gen HQ!

Technical Lead | New York City / Remote

About the Technical Lead Engineer role:

The Technical Lead Engineer will develop Next Gen HQ’s MOMENTUM Membership, an ed-tech platform that helps people think more entrepreneurial and design their own lives. The MOMENTUM Membership consists of a digital platform (desktop & mobile app) that will provide top-tier entrepreneurship learning, access to an empowering community of leaders in pursuit of their dreams, and curated entrepreneurship resources.

If you are interested in being part of foundational architectural decision making, building pipelines for future scaling, and coding the active implementation all while growing a dev team, we want you! Good for someone who is a visionary and an executor - a leader who wants to guide a team through their own actions and getting into the weeds themselves, not just through words.

Context

  • Communication is key. We are looking for someone to work alongside the Product Manager to oversee scope, timeline, and risk escalation from a development perspective.
  • As the Tech Lead, you are responsible for providing strong technical direction involving establishing a technical vision, resolving technical disagreements, control technical debt, and managing the technical quality of the team deliverables.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to our Product Roadmap to ensure an optimized execution
  • Build/Update Architectural Diagrams to illustrate a system flowchart with all endpoints clearly documented
  • Liaise with Product Manager to prioritize tasks and evaluate status on regular Leads Stand-Ups and ad-hoc as needed
  • Own weekly executive updates via Asana on development status
  • Create Impact Analysis Reports to size and recommend guidance on a technical solution for new scope enhancement
  • Assist with further Product/Engineering Team hiring needs
  • Delegate work assignments to development team members in JIRA based on scope and timeline
  • Assign daily, weekly, and monthly KPIs to development team members and monitor through weekly 1-on-1 meetings to ensure they are achieving their goals
  • Lead daily Dev Stand-Ups to review open development tasks
  • Collaborate with development team members to identify and fix technical problems
  • Review code from development team members to maintain code quality assurance
  • Eliminate code churn as much as possible
  • Gate-keep / Approve code check-ins via Github Pipelines from team members
  • Establish deployment frequencies
  • Complete development tasks assigned to you

Skillset:

  • Prefer both frontend and backend architectural understanding and coding experience, but okay if expert in one
  • Prefer experience with AWS, GraphCMS, Figma, Github, React (frontend dev), node.js (backend dev), Postman, JIRA
  • Understanding of Test Case Automation

Time Commitment:

  • Prefer full-time, 40 hour-week
  • Will consider part-time at a minimum of a 10 hour-week (2 hours/day)
  • An average week may include:
    • Daily Development Stand-Ups (30 minute sessions in the morning)
    • 3x/Week Product Leads Stand-Ups with Head of Product, Product Manager, UI Designer, and Member Experience Manager (30 minute sessions in the morning)
    • Weekly Product Strategy Meetings (1 hour session at the start of the week)
    • 1:1s with key development team members (as needed 30-minute sessions, scheduled based on mutual availability)
    • Ad-hoc meetings (scheduled based on mutual availability)

Location

  • Prefer someone located in the tri-state area who is willing to commute into the office (located near Rockefeller Center) at least once a week
  • If remote, need to be available to join meetings and ad-hoc calls throughout the day

Compensation for this role stands at market rate for Technical Lead Engineering and may vary depending on level and experience of the applicant.

We are a young, fun, fast-paced team. We're collaborative and helpful, and thoroughly committed to each other's success. With a work hard, play hard mentality, we're bold and unafraid of failure

About Next Gen HQ:

Next Gen HQ develops products and services to energize the world’s greatest entrepreneurs, giving them the momentum they need to win at business and life.

Our purpose is to empower entrepreneurs to design the lives they want to live and to overcome obstacles that get in the way of their success. We’re focused on serving entrepreneurs -- the impact-driven believers & achievers who are pursuing something greater than themselves.

Entrepreneurs have used Next Gen resources to raise tens of millions in venture capital funding, get featured in major media outlets, access mentorship from senior executive leaders, and foster powerful new friendships. Each day we aim to support members through our online community, partner resources and in-person event series -- including Next Gen Summit, a #1-rated, Award-Winning conference for young entrepreneurs.

We work with dozens of household brands including American Express, Capital One, Dell, Target, the Wall Street Journal, and Comcast, engineering original activations and strategies to help them better access, engage with, and influence the next generation of business leaders. Next Gen has become a ‘go-to’ for corporate partners striving to stand out within a competitive landscape.

The fun stuff:

Next Gen HQ is not your typical company. We represent a community of the world's most accomplished and inspiring entrepreneurs. Our members are Forbes 30 Under 30 honorees, Shark Tank contestants, Thiel and KPCB Fellows, a high schooler who founded and sold a marketing agency, a teenager who launched a multi-million dollar sock company, and our members’ companies have even gone on to acquire one another. Our partners are industry behemoths like Capital One and Target as well as leading startups (and unicorns) like Brex. Suffice to say, the network and work we do at Next Gen HQ matters. And we do it better than anyone else.

Working at Next Gen HQ might be for you if:

  • You are a self-starter and will always go the extra mile
  • You are a great communicator -- especially with a pen (keyboard*)
  • You exhibit strong project management skills
  • You have an eye for design, and a desire to improve
  • You can come up with a solution to any problem thrown at you
  • Nothing gives you a greater sense of accomplishment than helping others succeed
  • You thrive in a supportive community, finding friends and people you can build your life and grow your career with

Next Gen is probably not for you if:

  • You are looking for a role with the same straight-forward tasks each day
  • You want a 9-5 job (do those really exist?)
  • You despise roller coasters (mental ones, that is)
